First AME Zion is one of the oldest churches in San Jose, CA, first founded in 1864. To preserve the rich history of the church, Jamii Technology created a virtual history museum of the church. This preservation initiative ensures the history of the church will live on as well as provides an opportunity for anyone in the world to view it. The church blends virtual settings with visual media such as photography and video, giving visitors a unique experience.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Virtual museums have many benefits over traditional brick-and-mortar. They can offer access at any time of day or night; they do not require staff members to be present which means that the virtual museum is 24/7 365 days per year! Another great thing about virtual museums is that you’re never limited by location.
THE OUTCOME
Since creating a virtual museum for First AME Zion, many of its members have enjoyed viewing the historical site from the comfort of their homes. The First AME Zion virtual museum can now be used for virtual field trips, lesson plans, and training.
